Episode 17

Express Yourself!

Published on: 28th April, 2023

Use AI to be more effective, but... use your own words and think about how you express yourself. Also in this episode... Martin met a robot in disguise on social media... And if you use Chat GPT directly, it could be stilted, stiff and even boring for your readers and the people who are listening to you. That would be shame, wouldn't it?

Martin:

Welcome to Presentation Skills Q and A. I am Martin Lindeskog.

Martin:

Hi Karina.

Carina:

Hi Martin.

Carina:

How are you today?

Martin:

I'm fine.

Martin:

Yourself?

Carina:

It's fine.

Carina:

The sun is warm and shin minds lovely.

Carina:

So I feel really fine.

Martin:

Spring is here.

Carina:

Spring forward.

Martin:

Yes, spring forward.

Carina:

Yes, absolutely.

Martin:

Either we are chasing the robots or the robots are chasing us.

Martin:

I have been thinking about this for some time and this podcast for the record is not

Martin:

specialized in intelligence in an artificial way or robots.

Martin:

We are more interested we are interested.

Carina:

Yes, in this topic.

Martin:

But I've been thinking about that, how you could use it and how you could misuse it.

Martin:

Also that's something that I've been pondering.

Carina:

We have talked a lot about that, Martin.

Carina:

We have talked about AI for several episodes.

Carina:

But the other day you mentioned that you

Carina:

thought that a person you met on social media used it for its comments.

Carina:

It didn't feel natural, I thought you said.

Martin:

Yeah, it was a bit stilted, you could say.

Martin:

And there you have it.

Carina:

For me and our listeners.

Martin:

Yeah. So for the record again, when I'm a technocrat, I'm for technology.

Martin:

I go back philosophically way back to the industrial revolution and I see how things

Martin:

progress.

Martin:

So I'm all for it.

Martin:

And as you have told it, this is not new, but now it's getting more common.

Carina:

Exactly.

Martin:

But I also see how it could be like a surface or unnatural or robotic or like

Martin:

plastic, you could say, or not that you haven't done the introspection then who are

Martin:

you? What kind of style are you?

Martin:

And so on.

Martin:

Because we have talked about that with

Martin:

relation you know somebody and then you like them hopefully and then you trust them and

Martin:

then you do business with referral marketing process and if it sound like it's not you like

Martin:

for example, the standard example is, thanks for signing up for a newsletter and your name.

Martin:

And they miss your name.

Martin:

It's because it's like a template or somebody

Martin:

reaching out to you on LinkedIn.

Carina:

And you see it or give you the wrong name.

Martin:

Yeah, or give him the wrong name or like a standard template and they say they

Martin:

want to connect blah blah blah because of this or that but they haven't done any research or

Martin:

connection before or whatnot and that could be fall flat in a way.

Carina:

You should use AI to be more effective, but it has to be you.

Carina:

Yes.

Carina:

And you must use your own words and you must

Carina:

think about how am I express myself, my personality, if I have a purse, if I a lot of

Carina:

feelings and are talking with all my body when I'm speaking and have many spontaneous

Carina:

phrases, or if I am more clear or distinct in my way when I talk about topics and to people.

Carina:

Yeah, so you have to think about how you communicate when you use AI as well.

Carina:

So it will be you yeah.

Martin:

And we could list that in the Show Notes, you have found some services and maybe

Martin:

we'll come back to them because it's very interesting topic and field and you could

Martin:

really how to say, become a nerd and the rabbit hole again.

Martin:

And then we could direct you to some specialized podcast about robots, so to speak.

Martin:

But you have found some that we'll include in the Show Notes that could be find your own

Martin:

natural voice and I will come back to that.

Martin:

Also, I had one on my show called Egonet Cost

Martin:

on a social media tool that had artificial intelligence built in, for example, with the

Martin:

emojis suggestion of writing blog posts, scheduling, et cetera.

Martin:

So I was not ready then, but it was a great interview and conversation.

Martin:

And now I'm thinking, which tool could I pick? Until next time, I will really check out this

Martin:

chat.

Carina:

GPT.

Carina:

I should say that in our Show Notes we give

Carina:

examples of these tools that help you to write your text in a personal way.

Carina:

And it will help you so you can avoid plagiaris, how do you say plagiarism copycat.

Carina:

And you can also write both better and faster.

Carina:

But we give these links in our.

Martin:

Show Notes so our business can read more about this.

Martin:

We'll continue and see where robots are leading us.

Martin:

And for next time, the call to action will be to check out a podcast service called Pod

Martin:

Chaser.

Martin:

They recently was acquired by podcast

Martin:

playaware called Acost and they have a service now, it's a premium service, but you could use

Martin:

one keyword or one keyword phrase for free and then you get it in your inbox every day.

Martin:

And in one way or another it has been using this new technology in order to search for the

Martin:

keyword.

Martin:

So, for example, you could use the word

Martin:

presentation skills or something else and see what it's talking about in different podcasts.

Martin:

So it could be other presentation skills and presentation information, communication

Martin:

podcast, but it could be a guest, it could be a topic, it could be news podcast, it could be

Martin:

whatever.

Martin:

But there you could find lots of interesting

Martin:

material, I think.

Martin:

So that could be a tip.

Carina:

Yeah. And we shall also say that you don't have to have a podcast to registrate

Carina:

yourself on Pod Chaser.

Martin:

Yeah. You could be a user and a listener and a fan of new technology and also

Martin:

curious about things.

Martin:

So that's correct.

Carina:

Karina we have so much to talk about.

Carina:

Martin yes, but we have to go further today.

Martin:

Yeah. So until next time.

Carina:

Yes, nice to talk to you.

Martin:

Same.

Carina:

Okay. Bye.

Martin:

To sugan.

Martin:

Cheers.
